Comedy 101 for Teens! with Mina Hartong
F Comedy at WSCC, New York, NY

Are you interested in trying your hand at comedy? Are you looking for a creative release? Do you have something snarky to say but nowhere to say it? Then Comedy 101 for Teens is for you!

This 6-week course will introduce you to the world of standup comedy and is an excellent opportunity for those looking to work on their confidence in public speaking. You’ll learn about stage presence, mic handling, the basics of joke structure, and comedy writing skills, leading you to kill your first 5-minute set. The class will conclude with a show at West Side Comedy Club, where students can get on stage and try out their newly minted set in front of a live audience. Everyone who performs will walk away with a high-def recording of their set to take home.

Our instructors are working comics themselves with credits to their name; they can speak directly to the industry as it is today.

At FUNY Standup, The Standup Comedy School, we are passionate about helping people find their funny.

Please note this course is designed for High School Students (14 -18 years old)

A Note from Mina:

Hey Funny People! Before our first class, scroll through your Insta feed, your Netflix watchlist or  your latest text thread- write down any themes, topics, or content that keeps coming through for you. This is the beginning of your material. Come to class with a written list of topics; things that you like/ are into, what/who annoys you, what scares you, what/who you are obsessed with.
See you on stage!

Materials: Please bring a composition/spiral notebook and pens/ pencils. We are going old school to write the beginnings of your sets

About Mina Hartong:

Mina Hartong ( Joe’s Pub, Broadway Comedy Club, Olivia Travel) is from Connecticut, but please don’t hold that against her! She started her comedy career by accident performing at an open mike in Amsterdam. She didn’t know it was a contest, she won and was hired on the spot. Since then, her career has taken her to comedy clubs all over the world, New York City public schools, Europe, Australia, classrooms in Tanzania, Africa and Correctional Centers on the East Coast. Mina has been performing and touring for over thirty years. She hosts her own Comedy Show, Lez Out Loud, which just had its tenth sold out show. When Mina is not on stage, she loves coaching new comics and lives to travel. Mina is a member of the Lincoln Center Director’s Lab, one of Curve Magazine’s Funniest Women, and a finalist for Ladies of Laughter. Follow Mina @Mina Hartong on Facebook, Instagram and You Tube.

What students are saying about Mina’s Comedy Class

“Thank you for the workshop and I took all of your advice… literally life changing!”

“I wouldn’t change anything about the class. When I first thought about taking the class I was nervous as I am generally a shy person, but I am so glad I did it. It helped me to come out of my shell and accomplish something I never thought I could do. Thank you so much! “
"The more I reflected on the experience the more I realized how much I learned. Yes it was definitely outside my comfort zone but it was so worth it. Sign me up for the next one!”
